After some reading I found that in administration Menu -> System -> Install -> Discover there is an extension discovery tool "discovers" extensions that exist on your website in some form but haven't been installed, for whatever reason. So copying the Cassiopeia template and renaming all appropriate files and entries is also one of the ways.
